I know that when I was in school, there was never enough visuals to help me when we would learn about geography. I blame this as to why I can hardly ever locate anything that is not labeled on a map for me. I really think this will appeal to hands-on learners. They are often ignored in the classroom. We use a recorder book that often makes reference to the countries where the different songs we play originated. I'm thinking of finding some images to go along with these references. Are you familiar with Google Earth? It is a program you can use to search the world using satellite imagery (and it is a lot of fun, I might add). Your virtual tour idea would work real well in Google Earth by using geotagging. You take a picture and assign geographic coordinates to it, and then as you search, you see the pictures for each place. That way, students have a geographic frame to their travels (they can see the world flying by before settling in on a picture). Shelly has done a neat project with Google Earth.
